Dr. Hoang Nguyen
Hoang H. Nguyen is a Vietnamese-American concert pianist, jazz musician, and college professor in Orange County, California. He received a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Claremont Graduate University, and currently teaches applied music, class piano, and keyboard harmonization at Santa Ana College since 2013.
Dr. Nguyen performed internationally as soloist at prestigious venues such as Cite des Arts in Paris, Basilica de St. Pedro in Perugia, Hanoi Opera House, Musco Performing Arts Center as well as in concerts at the Brown Foundation Performing Arts Center in Houston, Chopin High School of the Arts in Bytom, Lausanne University, and Bangkok’s Goethe Institute. He was featured as soloist with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, Perugia Il Solisti Orchestra, CSUF Symphony Orchestra, Fullerton College Symphony, Vietnamese-American Philharmonic, and Rio Hondo Symphony Orchestra. A passionate of chamber music and two-pianos repertoire, has collaborated with international artists such as Eduardo Delgado, Grace Fong, and Ning An.
Born in Hanoi, Vietnam, Dr. Nguyen musical studies started at the National Music Academy, then at the age of 15 in France. He received diplomas from the Conservatory of Versailles (CRR de Versailles), Conservatory of Paris (CRR de Paris), Indiana University in Bloomington, and California State University, Fullerton. He won the CSUF concerto competition and was the finalist at the Liszt Los Angeles International Competition. Besides classical repertoire, Dr. Nguyen also studied jazz with Grammy-Award winning pianist Bill Cunliffe and performed at various jazz clubs in southern California.
